Spiritual Seeking

Welcome to Mind Focused Monday, where I support you in remembering the POWER of a TRULY FOCUSED MIND.

Today, let’s look at the puzzle called Spiritual Seeking and at how, despite our good intentions, it makes our mind full while blocking us from our true presence within.

Our key words to help keep you stay even more focused and in the now this week are, true presence. Remember you can use the words true presence, either out loud or in your mind's eye, as a guide, a reminder or a support in the week ahead.

In fact, for me, I have to admit, whilst it’s not the worst vice in the world, I was actually a long way from my true presence, by being addicted to spiritual seeking.

Let me give you an example. Whilst on the seeking trip to India, I was, as usual, looking for answers, looking to fill the inner void as we all so often do, and seeking to be connected to all that is, was, and ever will be. Do you recognize this setup? In hindsight, I had become a really, really good seeker. I would travel to the holiest places to meet the holiest people. I remain totally open to these external realities and I was insatiably curious. I asked questions after questions of everyone that resembled holy and listened super attentively to very often deeply inspiring answers.

So on arriving in Bangalore, I was about to meet a being that would cure my seeking addiction in an instant. Just by being in his true presence, I felt things beginning to drop away, and then, as if by magic in another moment, the seeking stopped and my all pervading true presence was with me. The realization hit me instantly, true presence had been with me all along.

I openly admit, I have had many blind spots and this had been one of them, being blinded by searching for true presence, something that was already inside and all around me. The blindness meant my vision and my perception had been obscured. Obscured by my seeking and support by the very belief that I had something missing and therefore something to find. Yes, here’s the twist. I had filled my mind so fully with seeking that I had not allowed my awareness, the space to expand and to realize that what I was ultimately looking for, my true presence, had been travelling patiently with me all along.

Consider your own inner seeking within now! What have you been seeking? What are you seeking? Push yourself a little further and ask again, what are you really, really seeking? Spend a moment with your inner seeker. See how curious she is, listen to how inquiring she is. Notice how mentally active she is. Maybe he’s seeking to know the answer to the ultimate questions like, who am I? Who am I really? Finally, take a moment to let all the seeking go. Let all the thinking stop now, and whilst clearing your mind, soften your eyes, expand into being with your true presence while gently looking upon the world.

So when you meet the laughing Buddha on the road, now you can smile broadly, because you know he is laughing at the paradox which is your seeking mind. Can’t you? Laugh while having an amazing week, as you’re letting go of the addiction to seeking.

Beautiful, you are heading towards a focused mind now, while gradually revealing the masterpiece that is your true presence, your true self.
